Happy New Year!
I have been asked by a colleague here at the SWSPHN to get the word out about a study being undertaken by the University of Wollongong see information below:
Childhood obesity rates have doubled in the past 30 years, with SWSLHD having the 2nd highest rates of childhood overweight/obesity in NSW. It’s a complex issue that needs to be addressed and one of the key priority areas to be addressed in NSW.
There is a study currently being undertaken at the University of Wollongong that is aimed at parents of preschool-aged children living in the Illawarra, Southern Sydney, Campbelltown, Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven. Parents receive access to healthy lifestyle information and support from a dietitian to help them move towards a healthier lifestyle. A new group is starting soon and currently seeking participants for the program.
Please see the attached flyer for more information and contact details – it would be great if you could help spread the word to relevant networks (e.g. mums & bubs groups) within the area who could benefit from finding out more about this program.
I did note in the December minutes Cath that childhood obesity was presented so this study may be timely.
Any assistance you may be able to offer in getting the word out to your networks working with mums & bub s etc. would be greatly appreciated.
